#206 Portuguese Bend Reserve
Portuguese Bend Reserve is a 399 acre preserve along the rolling hills of Rancho Palos Verdes. A variety of trails wind along the bluffs and provide stunning views of the ocean. With its rocky canyons and coastal sage scrub, it is the perfect example of the Mediterranean habitat of the Southern California Coast.
#200 Avila Adobe
Part of El Pueblo de Los Ángeles Historical Monument, Avila Adobe was built in 1818 and is the oldest residence in Los Angeles. Francisco Avila, mayor in 1810, built the Adobe to entertain and conduct business as it was in the center of the Plaza alongside working his rancho in the countryside. He hosted family as well as travelers including famous explorer Jedediah Smith. Though falling into ruin and condemned in 1920's, Christine Sterling from San Francisco, helped gain public interest and save it from destruction. The state acquired the property as a state park in 1953.

#191 Arthur B. Ripley Desert Woodland State Park
Arthur B. Ripley Desert Woodland State Park preserves one of the last remaining strands of Joshua Trees in Antelope Valley. Native Americans used the trees as a source of food and material. During the Spring, Joshua Trees contain gorgeous blooms and provide a striking sight.
#184 Point Fermin Lighthouse
Built in 1874 from California redwood trees, Point Fermin Lighthouse was the first lighthouse constructed on San Pedro Bay. This Stick Style Victorian Lighthouse was designed by Paul J. Pelz who created six in the same style. Point Fermin constantly guided ships until Pearl Harbor in 1941 where its light was forever dimmed. It served as a Navy lookout tower during World War II before being restored for its Centennial in 1974. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places, it opened to the public in 2003.

Meaning 'the fisherman' in Spanish, El Pescador State Beach is a great pocket beach in the Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation Area. From tide pools to sandy beach, this beach has something for everyone and rarely attracts large crowds. It is a slice of Malibu heaven.
#178 Catalina Casino
The Catalina Casino has been one of the most iconic landmarks in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island since 1929. Casino in Italian means 'place of gathering' which can be quite confusing in English today as gambling does not exist. The Art Deco and Mediterranean Revival architecture helped to create the look of the city. It continues to serve as the island's movie theater and grand ballroom. The theater can seat 1,154 while the ballroom can accommodate up to 3,000 dancers.
#171 The Nethercutt Collection
The Nethercutt Collection contains one of the finest sets of automobiles in the World. With more than 130 antique and vintage autos, mechanical music instruments, nickelodeons and the Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ, the collection will keep you entertained with wonder. J.B. Nethercutt and his wife Dorothy created the museum which has been free since its opening in 1971. J.B.'s Aunt founded Merle Norman Cosmetics, whom he went into business with and whose profits helped create this amazing collection.

Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden is a beautiful landscaped garden in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. It contains 2,000 species of plants native to California and has 58 acres of beautiful trails. From Joshua Trees to Torrey Pines, there is great diversity for every interest.
#160 Leo Carrillo State Park
Leo Carrillo State Park on the coast of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is one of the jewels of Malibu. With its secret rocky coves and white sandy beaches, the place has it all. Named after Leo Carrillo, famous actor on the State Park Board, this beach has also been featured in many movies and television shows. It is the perfect spot to catch a sunset.
