#235 Tejon Ranch

Tejon Ranch is the largest private land owner in California. The Central Valley, Sierra Nevada Mountains and Mojave Desert all meet here to create an ecosystem like no place else on Earth. Rare and endangered plant and animal species call the ranch home. In the Spring, the mountains come alive with a mosaic of wildflowers. Access to the ranch is only allowed through the Tejon Ranch Conservancy.

#233 Eureka Mine

Eureka Mine & Harrisburg are the ghostly remains of Peter Aguereberry's famous Death Valley mining camp. He first discovered gold here with his partner Shorty Harris in 1905. Pete would remain here for forty years until 1945. His camp and mining ruins patiently stand against the test of time. A famous 1612 gram Golden Nugget from the mine is displayed at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institute.

#230 Garnet Peak

Garnet Peak is the crown jewel of San Diego. Located along the Sunrise Highway in Cleveland National Forest, this 6,000 foot peak offers jaw-dropping 360 degree views of Anza Borrego Desert State Park, beautiful alpine forest mountain terrain and even the ocean 50 miles away on a clear day. A moderate 2.2 round trip hike take you to the top and past the Pacific Crest Trail.

#227 Downtown Palm Springs

Downtown Palm Springs along Palm Canyon Drive is the heart of Palm Springs. Palm trees line the historic buildings, shops and restaurants while the San Jacinto Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop. The Palm Springs Walk of Stars is a fun way to discover those who helped create the city as a resort getaway including Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe & Elizabeth Taylor.

Wild Horse Canyon Road is a scenic drive through the Mojave National Preserve. This dirt drive is a true experience of solitude as is winds along the secluded canyon. #213 Casa Del Desierto

Casa Del Desierto is a Barstow Harvey House built in 1911 by the Atchison, Topeka & Sante Fe Railroad. The famous Fred Harvey Company operated the station as a restaurant & hotel and was an important stop in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Its iconic Spanish Renaissance and Classical Revival architecture stood out as a beacon in the desert. Today, it serves as a museum with the adjacent Western America Railroad Museum & Route 66 'Mother Road' Museum.

#209 Galleta Meadows

Galleta Meadows is a public art installation around the city of Borrego Springs. The metal sculptures are created by Mexican artist Ricardo Breceda and were envisioned by land owner Dennis Avery. He wanted free art for the world to enjoy in this gorgeous desert environment. More than 130 sculptures bring to life creatures that once roamed the Colorado desert from camels, sloths, raptors and elephants. The treasure hunt to find them makes it all the more fun.

#203 Aguereberry Point

At 6,433 feet, Aguereberry Point is my favorite spot in Death Valley National Park. Endless views stretch for miles including the Panamint Range, Furnace Creek, Badwater and the massive valley floor itself. The point was named after Pete Aguereberry who came to America from France in 1890. He worked the famous Eureka Mine nearby from 1905 to 1945 and led visitors to this vista he named 'The Great View'. *4 wheel drive strongly recommended on this rough dirt road

#201 Desert Christ Park

Desert Christ Park features brilliant sculptures depicting the life of Jesus Christ in the Mojave Desert. They were sculpted by Antone Martin in the 1940's as a way to promote World Peace. Dedicated on Easter Sunday in 1951 and featured in LIFE Magazine that same year, the park is open to all visitors everyday from sunrise to sunset.

#197 Teutonia Peak

Teutonia Peak is an amazing trail in the heart of the Mojave National Preserve. This 3 mile round-trip hike to the top winds through the largest and densest Joshua Tree forest on Earth. Sweeping views of Mojave Desert terrain including the symmetrical Cima Dome soar for miles as this peak tops out at 5,755 feet.
