In Winter, the golden hills turn unbelievable shades of green.
#304 Morro Rock
Morro Rock in an ancient volcano and main landmark of Morro Bay at 581 feet. This monolith is protected as Morro Rock State Preserve which includes the surrounding stretch of coast as a beach. It is the first of San Luis Obispo's 'Nine Sisters' or volcano plugs created 20 million years ago. Native Chumash and Salinan consider it sacred and archeological evidence has found settlements near the site dating 6500-2000 B.C. Morro Rock is the perfect place to relax on the Central Coast.
#294 Montana de Oro Sand Spit
The Sand Spit is a ancient coastal dune field in Montaña de Oro State Park. For several miles, massive sand dunes cover bluffs that descend into crashing waters below. A trail leads to the ocean while climbing the many peaks offer dramatic vistas of Los Osos and Morro Bay. Enjoy a peaceful day wandering the dunes and finding hidden spots to relax.
#284 Bluff Trail
The Bluff Trail at Montaña de Oro State Park is the most beautiful stretch of coastline in Southern California. Morro Bay's Embarcadero takes you back to a simpler time along the Central Coast. Galleries, inns, shops and restaurants line the streets with iconic Morro Rock in the background while seals swim along the boats of the harbor. #128 Black Hill
Black Hill is a 665 foot mountain vista in Morro Bay State Park on the Central Coast along Morro Bay Lagoon. The hill provides a 360 degree view of San Luis Obispo county including the lagoon, ocean, Santa Lucia Mountain Range and the rolling green foothills. It is one of the famous 'Nine Sisters' volcano plugs in San Luis Obispo which formed over 20 million years ago. At a half mile round trip hike, this short hike boasts an incredibly memorable view.
#24 Elfin Forest
The Elfin Forest is a peaceful nature preserve in Los Osos on the Central Coast. Located along beautiful Morro Bay, the forest protects 90 acres and more than 200 plants, 22 mammals, 13 reptiles & amphibians and over 100 species of birds. The pygmy oak woodland, chaparral, marsh and manzanita plant communities all come together to reveal what the Coast of California is actually supposed to look like.
