#354 Cabazon Dinosaurs

The Cabazon Dinosaurs, 'The World's Biggest Dinosaurs', are an iconic Roadside Attraction near Palm Springs. Mr. Rex, a 100-ton Tyrannosaurus rex and Dinny the Dinosaur, a 150-ton Brontosaurus were sculpted by Claude K. Bell. Both dinosaurs are so massive, several people can fit inside while Dinny serves as a building. They are forever famous from the film, Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

 

#315 Angels Flight

Angels Flight is an historic funicular railway in Downtown Los Angeles which has served the city since 1901. It is known as one of the shortest railroads in the world and was originally used to carry businessmen up Bunker Hill. Operating until 1969, it was then stored for 27 years until reopening in 1996 as a tourist landmark. Unfortunately, several accidents have caused the railway to close and a reopening is unknown at this point. The railway is still displayed Downtown.

 

#288 Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame has been around since 1958 and represents 2,500 stars of film, television, music, radio and theatre. With 10 million annual visitors, it is one of the most visited spots in the country. Since 1968, it has been a requirement for an honoree to attend the unveiling of the star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce accepts nominations for those that have been in their industry for at least five years and give to charity. Enjoy 15 blocks of Hollywood stars from the past and present.

 

#195 Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway rises 6,000 feet from the desert floor to the alpine forest through five diverse life zones. It is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world. From the top to the bottom, the temperature can differ by up to 40 degrees making it the perfect escape during hot summers. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as 200 miles including Mount Charleston outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Because of its engineering feat, it earned the nickname 'eight wonder of the world' when it opened in 1963.

 

#164 Free Flight

Free Flight in sunny Del Mar is a bird sanctuary full of paradise with a mission to promote the unique bond between birds and humans. A visit to Free Flight offers the chance to get up close and personal to interact with these gorgeous creatures. With its variety of birds and friendly atmosphere, it is one of the best experiences in San Diego.

 

#140 Badwater Basin

Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park is the hottest, driest place on Earth and the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. The basin is a great salt pan of 'bad' un-drinkable water that pools only during a rare rain. Average annual rainfall is only 1.9 inches per year while the evaporation rate is 150 inches!

 

#93 Bubblegum Alley

Bubblegum Alley is a 70 foot wall in Downtown San Luis Obispo. Growing in the 1970's, two cleanings were instated to try and remove the gum but people persisted. There is much debate whether it is a great draw for tourists or a smelly eye sore. Whether disgusted or delighted, it is an interesting visit for the senses.
