At more than 1600 feet, one of the highest elevations on Santa Catalina Island, sits the iconic Airport in the Sky. It was built by the Wrigley family in 1941 who owned most of the island at the time. Passenger service lasted from the 50's to 70's from Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County. It is now a private airport for charter planes and is a stop for those on island tours between Avalon and Two Harbors with a cafe and gift shop.
